The first few months of 2016 has witnessed increased cases of violence, including extra judicial killings, disappearances, cases of abductions, torture and grenade attacks. Perpetrators identity in some instances is unknown, in some cases allegations of involvement of supporters of the ruling party, youths and military officials are recorded. This violence erupted after the decision by President Nkurunziza to run for a third term was opposed by civil society, political parties and international community. The elections held on 29 June 20151, 21 July 20152 and 24 July 20153 lacked acceptance and legitimacy including strong reservations from the African Union. This update records incidents and reports of mass graves, attacks, hate language and action by the international community to end these grave violations.
