Following the pronouncement by President Nkurunziza that he was running for a third term, peaceful demonstrations started on April 26, 2015. Law enforcement agents responded using force and violence resulting in deaths, arrests, and organized attacks. These incidents have increased over the last quarter of 2015 and the environment continues to degenerate. From May 2015, several international organizations including the East African Community (EAC), the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) made tremendous efforts to help de-escalate the ongoing Burundi crisis and find a lasting solution with few success as to date.
