As the violence from the contested 2015 elections continue to be recorded, efforts by regional actors through the East African Community, and the African Union to resolve the political, human rights and humanitarian crisis continues to suffer sets. During the reporting week, former Tanzanian President, Mr. William Benjamin Mkapa and his team began formal consultations supporting the resolution of the Burundi crisis. These talks had been faced with several false starts, with representation of political actors and civil society remaining of concern. As dialogue resumes, the violence has unfortunately not stopped. Reports of killings, grenade attacks, enforced disappearances and tensions between Burundi and Rwanda are increasing. The cessation of any forms of violence and ending of hate speech are essential conditions for holding of dialogue to resolve this protracted conflict.
