On 19 and 20 March 2026, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Sierra Leone, Atrocities Watch Africa, in its capacity as Chair of the Coalition for the Ratification of the Malabo Protocol (CRaMP), convened a regional meeting in Freetown bringing together activists and government representatives from a number of West African countries, including The Gambia, Ghana, and Burkina Faso.
The meeting provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage directly with regional experts and peers on the Malabo Protocol. Discussions focused on deepening understanding of the Protocol’s potential, addressing questions and concerns, and exploring its relevance within national and regional contexts in an open dialogue tailored to their concerns..
This convening forms part of a broader effort led by the Coalition to support and encourage engagement with the Protocol across the continent. Building on this momentum, the CRaMP will continue working with partners across to support informed engagement and advance progress toward the ratification of the Malabo Protocol.
