International Day of Peace

On the International Day of Peace, Atrocities Watch Africa’s Chief Executive, Dismas Nkunda, writes to everyone for whom 21 September is just another day of war. Drawing on this year’s coverage of atrocities on the continent, the letter sets out what Atrocities Watch has monitored in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia, names the outside governments whose weapons and money keep these wars alive, and asks the African Union Peace and Security Council to act before the next Peace Day. It calls on member states to ratify the Malabo Protocol and to vote in Geneva this month for a full renewal of the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan. And it closes with the people the day should honour: the ordinary Africans who have held these countries together. Read the full letter below.
