Brian Kagoro is new chair of Atrocities Watch

Renowned Zimbabwean lawyer and human rights activist, Brian Kagoro has this June become the new and first Board chair of Atrocities Watch.


Mr Kagoro was elected last week after the inaugural board meeting of Atrocities Watch. Other members of his team include Ms. Sheila
Muwanga from Foundation for Human Rights Initiative who is the new treasurer and Dr. Bhekikosi Moyo the Executive Director of the Southern Africa Trust who will help head the funding committee of the organization.The CEO Dismas Nkunda will serve as the Secretary to the board.

Other members who serve on the board include Dr. Anselm Chidi Odinkalu, former chair of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, Dr. Godfrey Musila of Africa Center for Strategic Studies, National Defence University Pentagon,Dr. Yitiha Simbeye, law Don at Open University of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, Dr. Albaqir Mukhatar, the founder and Executive Director of Khartoum Center for Enlightenment (KACE), Ms. Jane Serwanga, an advocate of the high court of Kenya and currently working with UNDP- Kenya. Others are Ms. Therese Niyondiko formerly Executive Director of FEMNET and Agnes Eboo who is the co-founder of the Citizens Governance Initiatives in Cameroon.

The one-day meeting helped board members to get updates on the progress and work of the organization and get to know the staff in the process of formulating policies and programs that would help grow the organization.
Atrocities Watch staff members were able to share with board their respective program updates and what they plan to work on in the coming one year. The interactive sessions had question and answer sessions that was useful in interrogating the various strands of work the Atrocities Watch has been working on ever since 2015.
